The Master of Descriptions

As I stood there, waiting to take her hand, I calculated the possibilities of a dream coming true. As she walked towards me, eyes glowing, with a perfect radiant smile knitted on the sleeves of her face, the world stood profoundly and held their chins, with awe laced on the creases of their eyes, her legs making furtive steps, I stood there and waited. Inside I thought, “would she ever be mine?” Just like we had rehearsed. The dance, a conversation, the walk, the smiles, everything was in place, the flowers, the glamour, the camera, food, people and gazes we didn’t mind at that time. This could’ve been our day. As our fingers trimmed for the first time, I bowed as I raised my eyes to gaze at her, I sensed something magical when our eyes met, then she looked away. We both smiled. So I led her to the dance floor, when Lionel Richie’s stuck on you hit the climax, I leaned forward to kiss her, only for her to jut back. She broke away. I stood there, rooted on the same spot she left me on, music still playing on, I watched as her dress faded into the crowd. A scowl formed on my face.

Realizing that I had a dream that could slip off my grip in seconds, I spent the greater part of the evening trying to atone, she spent it trying to elude me, she successfully did. I never got a chance to see her, nor say goodbye. Have you ever met someone for the first time, and before even knowing their name, who they are, where they come from, or what their passions are, you’ll just say to yourself, that she’s the one? Regardless of whether there’s a slightest of chance that she might be your distant cousin or relative, for you’ve met at a wedding, have you ? And you refrain from saying the four phrases for you don’t know how to go about it but even if you knew, it would be too early, and insanely weird. When I met Stephanie for the first time, it felt like the hundredth time we’ve met. Like we’ve always known each other all our lives. Like this moment immensely awaited for us. I knew she was the one. So when I leaned forward for a kiss it was no mistake, I knew the moment was ripe. I felt it, she felt it, her body gave me signs, her lips, her smiles, all her movements wanted to lean forward too. I never envisioned the possibilities of it not happening. It haunted me.

How did I know that she was the one, When I spent the entirety of my past on and off relationships, broken hearts, subdued souls and devoured women. She was like a clear glass of water in a desert after centuries of thirst, when I almost gave up and down my tools, she showed up and rekindled the agerasia of my hope. Nothing is as amazingly deceitful like finding the one, you are easily stupefied. You have your lives planned out before you, and every day, every minute, seconds are worth the wait, worth the breath. I spent time over the phone, calling and texting, saying sorry for the mistaken kiss. She said, she was afraid to lean in too, her mom would notice her. She wanted no trouble. She loved the company, the conversation, I enjoyed her smiling. The look in her eyes, mostly how she talked about the things she loved. The things she is mostly passionate about. We had arguments, some sort of negotiations, she wanted to have 6 kids, I wanted to have just two. To her it didn’t make sense why I wanted less, when we could spent time watching over more. She treasured family, the basis of existence, to have a big house and kids running all over. It excited her.

So when I stood there, as I waited to take her hand, I saw the possibility of a dream coming true. Eyes glowing, with a perfect radiant smile knitted on the sleeves of her face, she was the prettiest woman at the moment in my eyes. As she made her way towards me, I saw the woman I’d spend the rest of my life with. Amidst the things about her I refrain to write, and more about her I’m shy to put forth. In her I saw a Dream. I was obliged to wait. Till the moment was ripe, to hold her hands, swirl her around, hold her waist, kiss her, and tell her how much I desire her. Till then, I’ll wait. That’s the thing about knowing that she’s the one. Something weird about finding the one, is that you value a conversation more than anything else, for it makes everything else seem so natural and sweet. And whence you kiss the one, sorry, when I kissed Stephanie for the first time it felt so revitalising, I had to pause, and say to myself, “oh my God,… it’s really happening…” there’s nothing I’ve enjoyed as the munch of our lips.
