Tonight,
I had the longest night,
I was slowly dying,
Around me everyone slept with no clothes,
I was the only one trembling,
Sweating, my head was thudding.
Then I saw my best friend,
He came floating in the dark,
Like he was a knight,
I was in pain,
Tears fell my cheeks as I held him tight,
He held me back smiling.
My best friend,
Held my hands as our fingers trimmed into one.
He reminded me of our childhood memories,
How good, amidst the pain, it felt to have known someone for a lifetime.
I kept on to his memories, like it would be the last thing that took me home.
Then the woman that I was in love with,
Gave me an incessant urge to live,
She stood by the bedside,
Touching my face crying out to the Lord,
“Lord please, heal him”
I held her! I gently held her! She was hurting.
“It’s for the good Lord to decide baby”
My mother came,
I never wanted to see her face,
She was hurting, that nearly killed me,
I raised my head and called out her name,
There was a sharp pain on the back of my head,
My father put me down to rest.
Everyone begun disappearing one by one,
Except my siblings who yelled my name,
They disappeared as well,
Leaving me in an eternal darkness.
I felt it’s claws collecting me.
Never saw it’s face.
Only heard of its breath,
It was hot like I was immersed in a volcano,
My feet grew numb,
I begun levitating,
I screamed.
“get your filthy hands off me!”
Then I woke,
At 3 am,
Sweating, panting, head throbbing,
I sat on my bed,
Put on the lights,
Remembered the good Lord,
Then wrote a poem.
